This Biometric Data Policy explains how DRM Global, Inc. (“we”, “us”), which operates Date The Real Me, handles biometric data. It supplements our Privacy Policy and is our written, publicly available policy for biometric identifiers and biometric information, including for the purposes of the Illinois Biometric Information Privacy Act (BIPA), the Texas Capture or Use of Biometric Identifier Act, the Washington biometric identifiers law, and similar laws.
What we collect
When you verify your profile, we collect:
- a short selfie video, which helps confirm that a real person is taking the check;
- a selfie image; and
- copies of your profile photos.
To compare your selfie with your profile photos, our verification process creates face data from these images. That face data, and the images it comes from, may be biometric identifiers or biometric information under the laws above. We also collect information about your device, your connection and your location during verification, used to help keep accounts genuine and prevent fraud. We do not ask for an ID document.
Why we collect it
We use this data only to:
- confirm that you are a real, live person and that your profile photos show you;
- show a verified badge on your profile if you pass; and
- keep the community safe, for example to prevent fraud, investigate reports and stop banned users from returning.
We do not use it for advertising, and we do not use it to train any third-party AI or facial-recognition system.
Notice and consent
We collect biometric data only with your consent. Before your first selfie check, the app shows you a written notice of what we collect, why, and how long we keep it, with a link to this policy, and asks for your agreement. The check starts only after you tap “I agree”, which is your consent to the collection, use, retention and destruction of your biometric data as described in this policy and our Privacy Policy. Verification is required to use most features of Date The Real Me, including video dates. If you do not consent, do not start the selfie check. You can delete your account at any time.
How long we keep it
We keep verification data only for as long as necessary to verify members, keep the community safe, prevent fraud and abuse, comply with our legal obligations and resolve disputes, and in every case within the destruction schedule below. We keep the result of the check (verified or not verified) for as long as you have an account.
When you delete your account, your profile is removed and appears deleted to everyone straight away. We may keep certain verification records after that where the law requires or permits it, for example for fraud prevention, safety and legal compliance, securely and with restricted access, and only within the destruction schedule below.
Destruction
We permanently destroy biometric identifiers and biometric information when the initial purpose for collecting or obtaining them has been satisfied or within 3 years of your last interaction with Date The Real Me, whichever occurs first, unless we are required by law, or by a valid warrant or subpoena, to keep them longer.
No sale; limited disclosure
We do not sell, lease, trade or otherwise profit from your biometric data. We do not disclose it to anyone except:
- identity-verification, content-moderation and cloud service providers that process it on our behalf, under written contracts that require them to use it only on our instructions and to protect it;
- where you consent to the disclosure; or
- where required by law or by a valid warrant or subpoena.
Verification data is never shown to other members.
Security
We store biometric data encrypted, restrict access to people who need it for the purposes above, and protect it with a standard of care at least as protective as the one we use for other confidential and sensitive information.
Your choices
You can delete your account at any time from the Passport tab → Delete Account in the app. For questions about this policy, or to make a request about your biometric data, email privacy@datetherealme.com.
